Are we appreciating what is naturally real? We have nearly synthesized everything. What more can we simulate? Are we attempting to tempt fate? If we continue, we will create ourselves into extinction. Not all of which we create is destructive, however we are pushing the extremes.

How we wish to grow is a personal choice. I don’t think that we give ourselves enough credit. For too long we have thought of ourselves as infinitesimal and unable to effect change on a global level. It’s time to rise to the occasion. It’s really just accepting the realities of our choices. If we choose not to be consciously aware of the effects of our choices, we leave much to chance. Chance is when we close our eyes and roll the dice hoping to receive a 7 or 11. In life, there’s too much to be left to chance. With that being said, when we are consciously aware of our choices, miracles begin to happen – so much that it’s too much to be considered chance. We have the choice to believe in these little miracles. We have the ability to choose what we want to manifest in our life. It is about making the choice to believe. Belief is a personal experience and part of a collective meme. What would it take for our global culture to evolve to an understanding, appreciative, tolerant and respectful global community? As Gandhi so eloquently stated, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Recognize how your body reacts to the stressors of life. Our body recognizes stress prior to our conscious mind. Therefore, the more proficient we are at picking up on the body’s physical reaction; the quicker we are able to reduce the impact of the stressor. This will also create a much stronger mind/body connection.

An exercise that promotes this mind/body awareness is Body Scanning. I find this most effective to practice at night before retiring to sleep. It is a great way to tune in and relax.

With your eyes closed, scans your body from head to toe (starting at the toes) for areas of tension. As you scan your body, pay attention to any area that is tense. It may sound a little weird, but ask yourself - “Are my feet tense? Are my ankles tense? Are my calves tense?” This strengthens the connection between your mind and body (especially if this is new to you) to the specific area mentioned. Once a specific area of tension is identified, amplify the tension (with your mind) slightly; becoming fully aware of its existence while making a mental note that all tension is self-produced. Is there any event/situation in your life that could be causing the tension? Be mindful of any necessary steps that will reduce the tension/stress. Do not spend too much time on one specific area; just be mindful of the area of stress/tension and continue until you have scanned your full body.
